Oats, The Beauty of Nature

Hispanic women have always trusted the advice they’ve received from their mothers and grandmothers, especially as it relates to beauty.  Many of their tips and beauty secrets usually included the use of ingredients found in nature.

My family comes from Honduras, a country full of natural beauty. In Honduras, women know the importance of taking care of their skin, and in a third world country, many women rely on the land for their beauty regimes. For example, my grandmother swore by her avocado-honey facial mask, made with ultra-moisturizing ingredients. She would mash together 1/2 of a ripe avocado, 1/2 tsp of honey, and 1/4 tsp of coconut oil. Using her fingers, she would massage the mixture onto her face and leave on for 10-20 minutes. She then rinsed the mask off with warm water, gently patting her face dry, then she would apply her favorite moisturizer, made of oats. My grandma emphasized the importance of using avocado because it is incredibly moisturizing and has vital vitamins, including A, C, E and K.

My grandmother also passed down some other beauty recipes using natural ingredients derived from the land. One of her favorite natural ingredients to use for her beauty regime was oatmeal! Besides being eaten, oats can do a multitude of things for your beauty regimen, including exfoliating, cleansing, moisturizing and even act as an anti-inflammatory; all done naturally. Best known for its use in food, oat is actually one of nature’s best kept beauty secrets— comprised of five vital elements that are also found in healthy skin: proteins, anti-oxidants, enzymes, vitamins and lipids.

Using oats in your beauty routine is great for beautiful, younger looking skin. If you don’t have the time in your busy schedule to whip up your own DIY oatmeal beauty product, I recommend trying  AVEENO®’s ACTIVE NATURALS® line, which uses oats, to sooth, moisturize and protects your skin allowing you to show your natural beauty. By tapping into ancient folklore as well as historical uses of oat and using science to identify its most useful properties for healthy skin, AVEENO® scientists have unlocked the hidden benefits within the small but mighty oat.

Hispanic Influencer Kika Rocha, joins forces with AVEENO to convey and educate the Latino community, in Spanish, about the significance of oats and the abundance of ingredients that could be used to enhance our natural beauty.

AVEENO® is proud to debut “The Beauty of Nature,” a video narrative featuring Brand Ambassador Jennifer Aniston, which celebrates the abundance of ingredients found in nature with the vast potential to help enhance our natural beauty.

“The Beauty of Nature” highlights the compelling farm to formulation journey of the AVEENO® Brand’s first ACTIVE NATURALS® ingredient, oat. The video narrative traces oat’s journey from local family farms to grain mills, and its transformation into a “super ingredient” with the power to soothe, moisturize and protect.
