As moms we learn how to juggle several tasks at a time, like cleaning the house while doing some cardio and talking on the phone. Or, one of my favourites, breastfeeding in the carrier while hanging clothes to dry! It seems like there is always something on our “To Do List.” And more than often, we don’t take the opportunity to relax, or treat ourselves to some “Me Time,” which may lead to over-exhaustion, burn out and plain old crankiness. Yes, I’m guilty (Sorry, Amor)! I know that sometimes you can feel so alone, hopeless or sad because of all the go-go-go, but it’s important to know that you aren’t alone.

Moms = Community. And we’ve all been there, done that and felt some sort of way. Take that “Me Time” and treat yourself, whether it be lunch with a girlfriend, dinner with your “mom friends” without the kids or a solo coffee date.

On September 25, 2015, VancouverMom.ca, Entrepreneur Mom Now, and JellyBeen will be hosting the fourth annual Leading Moms. Be among an audience of other moms in a day filled with stories from mothers making a difference in the arts, business, health, media, politics and more. You’ll hear about their personal journeys in motherhood through a mix of performance, video and intimate talks delivered straight from the heart that will leave you refreshed and inspired.

On August 22, my sister in law and I joined Canada’s number one cosmetic brand, Lise Watier in celebrating the launches of their products (20th Anniversary Neiges, Something Sweet fragrance, Lift & Firm 3D, Base Miracle & Luminous Correcting Primer) at the beautiful Loden Hotel in Downtown Vancouver.

Lise Watier celebrated the 20th anniversary of Neiges, their signature fragrance. Neiges was launched in 1993 and is inspired by the first snowfall of the year. Nieges is long lasting and totally perfect for those cooler months. Neiges is a classic fragrance because it’s scent is appropriate for any time of day and occasion, it’s no wonder Neiges has had the greatest success in the history of the Canadian perfum industry.

Top notes: Hyacinth, Lily of the Valley, Rose and Jasmine
Middle notes: Magnolia and Orange Blossom
Bottom notes: Sandalwood and Musk
I also got to meet Jessica Kruger, the face of Something Sweet perfume! Jessica was the winner of a nationwide campaign that was launched in April to find an ambassador for the Something Sweet perfume. We spoke briefly about her experience so far as the ambassador of Something Sweet and what she was looking forward to in the upcoming months. Her positive energy and enthusiasm is infectious, it was such a pleasure meeting her.
Lise Watier was also celebrating the launch of their Base Miracle and Luminous Correcting Primer. The Base Miracle is a long lastng makeup primer that leaves your skin smooth and matte by decreasing the appearance of wrinkles and large pores. It is composed of vitamins A and C, it moisturizes the skin and leaves it free os shine all day. Seriously, this stuff is amazing.

The Luminous Correcting Primer corrects and naturally illuminates the complexion for a natural finish. It is Paraben Free, Fragrance Free and Oil Free! Luminous Correcting Primer is available in four shades, adapted for any complexion.

The fourth launch Lise Watier was celebrating was LIFT & FIRM 3D, the New Generation of ANTI-GRAVITY SKINCARE. This skincare line was designed for the specific needs of women over 40. LIFT & FIRM 3D provides a 3-Dimensional (length, width and depth) reduction in the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, tighten the skin’s matrix, smooth the skin’s surface, and maintain facial volumes. LIFT & FIRM 3D collection is PARABEN FREE!

Have you tried Lise Watier products before?

Volkswagen was kind enough to send me four tickets to check out the Vancouver International Auto Show (VIAS) so Gabriel and I invited my parents out that night to check out some of the newest models from Toyota/Lexus, Honda/Acura, Hyundai, BMW, Mitsubishi, Land Rover/Jaguar, Mini, Volvo, Subaru, Audi,Mercedes,Mazda, Infinti, KIA, Nissan, Ford, Chrysler/FIAT, GM and Volkswagen. We didn’t know what to expect walking into the Auto Show since this was the first one we had ever been to.

I like cars, now that doesn’t mean I know a lot about them ha ha ha. In fact, I barely know anything about cars. All I know is that there are many brands and models, some are “cheap” and some are very expensive. Right, some cars also take in different kinds of fuel, gasoline, diesel or the hybrids.

I liked that I was able to open the door and sit in the driver seat of some sweet rides. While firmly gripping the steering wheel of one of my favorite cars, I closed my eyes and imagined myself with Gabriel driving through a desert (like in The Valkyries)…it was a pretty cool daydream.

There was also a small section of exotic cars, where Gabriel spotted one of his favorite cars, the Lamborghini Gallardo. He told me that when he was a little boy his favorite Hot Wheels was a white Lamborghini Gallardo, just like the one right before our eyes. What a sweet memory, right. It’s awesome how something in the present can bring back so much emotion and memories from our childhood.

I ADORE retro/vintage cars so I was very happy to see a couple at the VIAS. One of my dream cars is retro and belongs to the Volkswagen family, you can see pictures of the beauty here. Speaking of retro cars and Volkswagen, they had a pristine 1952 model of the Punch Buggy aka Beetle! Ha ha ha, did you ever play that game? Punch someone in the arm when you saw a VW Beetle?

Disclaimer: I received four tickets for my editorial consideration and I decided to review VIAS based on my own experience and opinions.

About a month ago, I was invited to attend Vancouver Fashion Week (VFW) taking place at the Chinese Cultural Center. I was actually planning to upload several videos from the week long event that my husband shot and edited for NOTM. But unfortunately, the hard drive we had saved the videos on fell off our bed and went kaput. SO LAME!!!!

I’m pretty disappointed because I had 4 great segments from the first and last day of Vancouver Fashion Week SS 2013, including interviews I conducted in Spanish with Mexican designers Daniela Villa and Sofia Palmero.
Oh, and my interview with RACHEL ROY…gone. Bueno, there is still a little bit of hope that the videos may be saved. As I’m typing this, my husband is geeking out on the hard drive and re-installing a piece that was seriously damaged in the fall. I’m crossing my fingers and toes that it works. If not, then at least I have the memories, lol. Tik, tok, Tik, tok….

These photos are from the first day of Fashion Week Vancouver. Miraculously, I had these photos saved on my laptop, phew. Everything but my shoes was thrifted or a hand me down! Yup, even my vintage floral dress hehehe.

Just wondering, does anyone else have trouble finding cute heels at thrift stores? Or is it just me and my big foot feet? LOL. Seriously, I can NEVER find a nice pair of gently warn heels at thrift stores. That’s why I allow myself to buy a pair (or two) of STAPLE shoes a year, if necessary.

Right, back to VFW, I wrote an article for Proyecto Moda about day one, please check it out here and let me know what you think.

I’m all over the place today, must be the cafe con leche 😛

Honestly, I don’t really buy M.A.C cosmetics regularly because I can usually find similar products (by other brands) that have the same, if not better quality for a more affordable price. But, that didn’t stop me from checking out the launch event for the Marilyn Monroe collection at M.A.C.

The M.A.C Marilyn Monroe collection is simply beautiful; just like the Icon herself. Marilyn Monroe’s makeup was classic and romantic, many neutral eye shadows, red lips and those va-va-voom eyes! And I think M.A.C was able to translate that in their ode to Marilyn Monroe.

The photographs of Marilyn Monroe that M.A.C used for the packaging of the collection were taken by Milton Greene. I personally think he took the best photos of her!

Did you pick anything up from the M.A.C Marilyn Monroe collection?

A couple weeks ago, I went to an event called “Shop ‘Til You Drop” with my sister, Gabi, my friend Alex from Bodega Goods. We arrived an hour and a half early so we could get the “deluxe swag bags” they were handing out to the first 250 people in line. We had heard from people who had been to this event before that the deluxe swag bags always had great things in them, so we were pretty stoked. So at 4 pm, wristbands were handed out to the first 250 guests in line, YES! We were #186,7 and 8. PHEW. Now all we had to do was wait for another hour to get them :/

As the minutes turned into hours, the people just kept on forming into the huge line. I’m  thinking there were at least 500 people in line. All I can say is that I’m happy I had water and snacks in my purse because the waiting got intense.

Finally the line started moving, and we got out “deluxe swag bag!” There was no time to check out the goodies since we kept on walking into the “lounge” were Lou Lou’s editor was presenting some Fall 2012 trends, which we honestly didn’t pay any attention too! We were too busy grabbing and stuffing our faces with candy and POP CHIPS.

In the lounge we got to put on bright colorful wigs and fun accessories to take cute photo booth pictures, gracias to POP CHIPS. I seriously want a purple wig to wear out sometimes, I liked how I looked in it, lol. We ate some more POP CHIPS, had some Orange Julius samples, got a hand massage and even got screen protectors put on our iPhones.
We then headed out to some of the participating retail stores that were handing out Shop ‘Til You Drop goodies, like cupcakes, drinks, and manicures. We really had fun at one of the stores that had a photo booth and fun masks, like Obama and Hilary Clinton! Ahahaha, you know we rocked those masks, it was so much fun.

A couple rounds and we were exhausted, had to call it a night and take the train home, but not before one last game of “spin the wheel and win a prize.” Hehehe, skittles, a mirror and a gift card were won 😉

When I got home I dug right  into my “deluxe swag bag, and was pleased to see that ALL of the products were NEW TO ME, I haven’t tried any of these brands/products before. I am really looking forward to trying the Matrix Biolage shampoo and conditioner, I’ve heard great things about this brand. I’m also looking forward to trying out the Batiste Dry Shampoo. HAVE ANY OF YOU TRIED DRY SHAMPOO BEFORE? What are your thoughts?

So what was in the “deluxe swag bag?”

  • MATRIX BIOLAGE (Hydratherapie line): Hydrating Shampoo (Full Size)
  • MATRIX BIOLAGE (Hydratherapie line): Conditioning Balm (Full Size)
  • Batiste: Dry Shampoo (Travel Size)
  • John Frieda: 3 Day Straight Semi Permanent Styling Spray (Travel Size)
  • Bath & Body Work: Warm Vanilla Sugar Body Lotion (Travel Size)
  • Thomas Sabo: Nail Polish$20 Gift Card to Guess
  • $10 Gift Card to Metropolis/Metrotown mall
  • Compact Mirror
  • Sample of Face Mask
  • Sample of various shampoo and conditioner (L’Oreal, Tresemme)
  • Coupons for samples from NARS and MAC

Last week Gabriel and I met up with a couple of friends (Alex and Felix) and went to Fashion and Marciano’s Fall 2012 Event. Being greeted with smiles and some Sky Vodka cocktails was pretty rad, especially on  a warm summer evening. Let me tell ya, there was an abundance of drinks and tasty treats. Drool, just thinking about the delicious variety of macaroons; the raspberry ones were my favorite. Oh, and those mini brownies…speechless.

I will admit, I had often gazed at Marciano’s window displays in passing, but they never caught my attention/interest long enough for me to go inside and try something on. Or maybe is it because no esta en mi presupuesto de shopping? Anyways, I totally took this opportunity to have some fun in the changing room, hehehe. Oh boy, I fell in love with a few pieces, three to be exact! A leather skirt, which was soooooooo soft it felt like butter ($500); a turquoise blouse that felt so smooth and light, perfect for this transition into fall..and a leather trim pant that looked and felt so good…ahahaha can you tell I was merely hypnotized by them?

We also got to meet the West Coast editor of Fashion Magazine, Joy Pecknold. We mentioned that we were bloggers, and she joyfully told us that she started off as a blogger years ago, cool eh. She had picked out some pieces of Marciano’s Fall 12 Collection that she thought were staples for this Fall, and they were bang on. I can’t wait for Fall, leather on leather, dark lips and layers!
Do you shop at Guess by Marciano, why or why not?
Totally loved the photo session we had, too much fun 😉

It was 1996, and the Spice Girls were taking the world by storm with their hit single “Wanabee”...

To say I was obsessed with the Spice Girls is an understatement. I shared a room with my sister, but the walls on my side were covered with their posters and magazine clippings, my dresser was covered with their limited edition Chupa-Chups “Fantasy Ball” tins, and collectible stickers! I had shirts, wallets, purses, towels with them plastered all over it. Oh, who can forget the collectible photo and sticker albums, and of course the dolls!

They were a huge fashion inspiration for me growing up, I loved how wild MelB, aka Scary Spice dressed, how Posh was always so put together and feminine, and well MelC was just awesome for being Sporty, hahaha. Baby and Ginger were cool too. They pretty much influenced me into buying animal print, track suits, and cute dresses appropriate for my age! Oh yeah, and platforms!

Oh I have some great memories of the Spice Girls; like crying for days because my mom wouldn’t buy me a ticket to their first concert in Vancouver! Hahaha, seriously! Oh, and FINALLY being able to see them LIVE for the first time, like 10  years later for their REUNION TOUR! Yup, you guessed it, I cried as one of my childhood dreams came true December 2nd, 2007.

So now that you have a rough idea of how big of a Spice Girls fan I was/am, I can commence to tell you about what happend on Friday (June 15)…
I met up with my friends Karen from Trendy Feeling, and Felix from Yuki and Bee at Holt Renfrew because we had heard that Victoria Beckham would be there promoting her 2012 Fall/Winter Collection AND that there would be a photo op. Cool, right? We thought so…

It was to start at 12:30 promptly, BUT roughly three hours passed before Posh showed up. Good thing, we didn’t wait around, we gave up around the 45 minute mark, and went for coffee. We wandered around Holts; smelling perfumes, trying on creams, and shoes, sunglasses and bags. Finally, we were getting restless, and decided to stand by/wander around an entrance where there was a lonesome photographer and some body guards…

A few minutes later, there she was, looking Posh, like always. Wearing a dress from her collection, knee high boots, with her hair pulled to the side in a braid. I was in awe…she was in my bubble.

ANOTHER CHILDHOOD DREAM CAME TRUE: MEETING A SPICE GIRL!!

On March 22, 2012 I had the pleasure of accompanying my friend, Karen of Trendy Feeling to the second night of Vancouver Fashion Week. We met for coffee a few hours before the show, since it was the first time we were going to meet in person, and wanted to get to know each other a little better 🙂 It was an instant click, and the more time we spend together, we find out that we have so many things in common, hehehe. Gracias amiga, por invitarme al show!
My favorite collections of the night were Francesca by Pamela Ordonez  (pictured above) for her simple, yet edgy ready to wear pieces.  And  Mackenzie Jones (pictured below) for their extravagant and edgy evening wear, plus the unconventional way the models danced down the runway, was breath taking. Mackenzie Jones takes the cake for best presentation, I was so entranced by not only the intricate detailing on the clothing, but the story that the models presented while elegantly dancing down the runway. It was definitely an amazing way to close the night.
