For three years, the three of us lived in a cozy little one bedroom suite. And then I gave birth to Sol, and the four of us (and Bobi, our cat) lived there for 8 more months, until we finally found a home that was a better fit for our growing family. Living in a one bedroom suite, means that we co-slept. That’s right, the four of us in one huge bed. And we actually continue to co-sleep. But, there are some nights where Luna wants to sleep by herself, in her own bed. The kids actually have their own room, and we have the bunk beds set up. But, we aren’t too worried about having them sleep in their room quite yet. I mean, they’re just this tiny for so long, erhm short. So, we’re taking advantage of all the warm kicks, I mean cuddles throughout the night. Hahaha, en serio, my kids sleep like clock-work, meaning they literally move around the bed like a clock. Anywho, the nights our Munchkin does want to sleep on her own, in her room, I make sure I have a couple things ready for her. And I’m sure these items will also be handy while transitioning your Munchkin from co-sleeping to their own bed.

5 items to make a smooth transition from co-sleeping to independant sleep.

Munchkin Light My Way NightLight

This adorable portable nightlight owl will help comfort your toddler during bedtime and those overnight bathroom visits. I’ve noticed that Luna loves her Light My Way™ owl nightlight because it has given her a sense of independence; she’s able to turn off her bedroom lights alone, nightime check-ins, and even trips to the bathroom alone during the night. The Munchkin Light My Way™ owl nightlight also provides her with reassurance following scary dreams.

Light My Way™ owl features an easy-grasp handle for easy portability, one-button operation for ease of use, and LED technology so it’s cool to the touch. And you can forget about worrying about  cords or charging stations, it’s 100% battery-operated.Munchkin Light My Way NightLight-owl-mom-review

Favourite Stuffy

Our little Munchkin sleeps with an array of stuffed animals, but she definetly has her favourites, which includes her Maplelea Doll, Saila, and Elsa & Anna from Frozen.  Having a favourite stuffy, or two helps comfort your toddler during bedtime and also gives them reassurance during the night. I always slept with a couple of my favourite stuffies growing up too.

Warm PJs

Dress according to season. It’s still Winter here, so I keep Luna in her Merino Kids pjs, that are perfect for regulating body temperature. She likes to kick her blankets off, so it’s important that she has warm pjs on and stays cozy while sleeping.Merino-Kids-Warm-wool-pj

Miracle Munchkin 360 Trainer Cup

My kids are always drinking water, from dusk til dawn. We’ve been through our fair share of water bottles, sippy cups, and “spill free” cups. But, one of my favourite beverage holding ricipients (sounds fancy, huh) is Munchkin’s Miracle 360 Sippy and Trainer Cups. These are SPILL PROOF, SERIOUSLY. That’s why they are perfect for having bedside for your little one

Luna wakes up atleast once a night to have a drink of water, and with the Munchkin Miracle 360 she doesn’t even have to sit up to drink. Simply drink from anywhere around the rim, like a regular cup. And with no extra spouts, straws or pieces, the Miracle 360 Cup is easy to use and even easier to clean. Because ya’ll know how annoying cleaning straws, etc can be. Plus, it helps support notmal muscle development in a child’s mouth.transition-independentsleep-cosleep-peapodmats-munchinmiracle360-lightmywayowl-merinokids-

One of the most useful baby products Gabriel and I have used since becoming parents two years ago is the PeapodMats. PeapodMats are convenient, versatile waterproof mats that are unlike any other conventional waterproof mats on the market today.

We have been using PeapodMats since our Little Moon was a newborn, on our bed as a “nursing mat,” so that my breastmilk would not get on our bed mattress. Our PeapodMats was also useful as a change mat on the bed, as we didn’t have a change table.

About a year ago, when we started potty training Luna, our mat was for naptime/bedtime since she wasn’t wearing diapers to sleep. Nobody wants to wake up in the middle of the night to change bed sheets!

No more changing the bed sheets everyday. PeapodMats take away the work and frustration from dealing with those “oopsie” moments. Unlike typical bedding and mattress protectors, they lie flat ON TOP of the sheets without moving or bunching. The “grippy” feature mat allows the child to sleep comfortably while protecting the sheets and mattress at the same time. They are hassle free.

When wet, just wash and dry on regular cycle.

PeapodMats Vesatile Waterproof Mat – Gray

PeapodMats are focused on the toddler and school age groups as they progress through potty training and bed wetting. But, that doesn’t mean that they are just for children. PeapodMats are so versatile, they can literally be used by babies and boomers! I’ve actually used it when I had my cycle because sometimes leaks can happen, and staining your sheets with blood sucks.

Take a look below at all the different ways the mat can be used:

PeapodMats for Baby

  • tummy time mat
  • changing mat
  • stroller liner mat
  • car seat mat
  • crib/playpen mat
  • bathing mat
  • highchair liner mat

For Toddler

  • potty training mat
  • nappy time mat
  • co-sleeping
  • resting mat
  • furniture protector
  • 20% (2-5yr olds) wet the bed

For School-Aged

  • mainly used for protecting the bedding sheets and mattresses
  • sleepovers
  • 15% (6-8 yr olds) wet the bed

For everything in-between

  • pregnancy mat
  • birthing mat
  • breastfeeding mat
  • on the go change table
  • travel mat/vehicle seat protector
  • beach/picnic mat
  • co-sleeping mat

If you’ve got a baby in your life, PeapodMats are definitely a must have product. You’ll get a lot of use of it. You can purchase online through BabiesRUs Canada or Amazon.com for USA.
