LOGONA Naturkosmetic: Lipgloss Swatches and Review

LOGONA Naturakosmetik was founded in Germany in the 1970′s and is a leading supplier of natural personal care products around the world. LOGONA guarantees quality in its products:
1. Free from synthetic colours, fragrances ans preservatives.
2. Free from paraffin oil or any other raw materials from petroleum chemistry
3. Made with plant oils and extracts from organic cultivation
4. Developed and produced without animal testing
5. Dermatological tests confirm good skin compatibility and effectiveness
6. Predominantly vegan products
7. Meets strict criteria for controlled natural cosmetics (BDIH and NaTrue= reliable proof of natural and organic quality)

I’ve been a fan of LOGONA Naturkosmetic since discovering the brand 7 months ago during the Latina Lifestyle Blogger Conference in LA. The only lip gloss I have in my makeup stash is LOGONA, in three tints: Red Berry, Light Brown and Terracotta.

Yes, I’m serious, I only have THREE .34 oz tubes of lip gloss! Why? Because I can rest assured that they are free of synthetic preservatives, colors and fragrances, and, are BDIH certified.

LOGONA’s Lip Glosses are sheer and can be worn alone or over a lipstick, which is one of my favorite perks about the product. The lip gloss provides great shine and lots of moisture to the lips leaving them feeling soft and healthy. I personally love that LOGONA’s Lip Glosses are not a sticky, making  them comfortable to wear. Also, their lip gloss is long lasting and doesn’t taste like anything (phew, because I don’t like it when my lip gloss/stick have a flavour/taste). LOGONA’s Lip Glosses are perfect for anyone who wants a fragrance free lip gloss!

LOGONA Lip Gloss Left to Right: Light Brown (#05), Terracotta (#06) and Red Berry (#01)

#05 Light Brown: Is a beautiful light brown, leaning more towards a nude tint. I love the natural colour, looks great worn alone or on top of a lipstick. I personally like wearing it ontop of dark lips or matte lipsticks for that extra moisture.

#06 Terracotta: Is a nude tone with light shimmer. Looks great worn alone or on top of any coloured lipstick.

#01 Red Berry: Has a rich red tint. Like the rest of LOGONA’s lip glosses, it looks great worn alone or on top of lipstick.

October Breast Cancer Awareness Month: Cause Marketing, Pinkwashing and What Questions to Ask Yourself BEFORE Buying Pink Ribbon Products.

I always notice the “Pink Ribbon” products throughout the year, but during the month of October I see a surge in “Pink Ribbon” products EVERYWHERE! I’m pretty sure just about EVERY company has a “Pink Ribbon” product out during October, the Breast Cancer Awareness Month...

Blame it on Cause Marketing, a term used when “companies align themselves with a cause because it will improve the public’s perception of them and increase their profits, and Breast Cancer Awareness is one of them. Unfortunately, consumers are led to believe that their purchases will help end the breast cancer epidemic.”

I’ll admit that I have never bought a “Pink Ribbon” product because I just have to so many questions that can never be answered by asking the sales associate or reading the pamphlet and/or label. I just don’t trust that these companies REALLY CARE about the cause they are promoting, I just see it as marketing, another way to cash in on a cause and the consumers who REALLY DO CARE. I rather donate DIRECTLY to an organization where I know how the money is being spent.

And watch out for the Pinkwasher: (pink’-wah-sher) noun. A company or organization that claims to care about breast cancer by promoting a pink ribbon product, but at the same time produces, manufactures and/or sells products that are linked to the disease.

Questions to ask before buying a “Pink Ribbon” product:

1. Does any money from this purchase go to support breast cancer programs? How much?
EXAMPLE, this year, UGG Australia is selling a Pink Ribbon Collection, their famous boots and slippers with a pink ribbon on the side. HOWEVER, purchase of the Pink of Ribbon Collection is not connected to UGG Australia’s donation. None of the portion of the sales went toward their already set donation of $42,750 to Susan G. Komen for the Cure. No matter whether or not you buy the Pink Ribbon Collection, their donation is the same.

From UGG Australia’s website Pink Ribbon Collection:
“In 2013, UGG Australia donated $42,750 to Susan G. Komen to help in the fight against breast cancer. Additional purchases will result in raising awareness to the ongoing battle and not to additional donations.”

2.What organization will get the money? What will they do with the funds, and how do these programs affect the breast cancer epidemic?
EXAMPLE: The Breast Cancer Awareness 2 pack of Smooth Sphere Lip Balm is advertised by its maker, eos, online with the following: A portion of proceeds will benefit breast cancer research.” It is not clear what breast cancer organizations would benefit, how much money they would receive, and what programs or work would be funded by the donation.
3. Is there a “cap” on the amount the company will donate? Has this maximum donation already been met?
EXAMPLE: In 2010, Reebok marketed a line of pink ribbon emblazoned footwear and apparel at prices ranging from$50 to $100. Though it heavily promoted the fact that some of their pink ribbon product sales would be donated tothe Avon Breast Cancer Crusade, they set a limit of $750,000, regardless of how many items were sold, and therewas no mechanism in place to alert consumers once the maximum donation had been met.

5. Does this product have toxins linked to breast cancer? What is the company doing to ensure that its products are not contributing to the breast cancer epidemic?
EXAMPLE: In 2011, Susan G. Komen for the Cure commissioned a perfume called Promise Me that contains unlisted chemicals that are regulated as toxic and hazardous, have not been adequately evaluated for human safety, and have demonstrated negative health effects. Although Komen said they would reformulate future versions of the perfume, without official adoption of the precautionary principle, there is no guarantee that future versions would be better.

Bart Simpson and Leather Outfit

I was kindly invited by Chicnova to try out one of their products, so when I spotted this Bart Simpson sweater I knew it’d be a cool classic I could keep forever and wear so many different ways!

I was pleasantly surprised with the quality of the sweater, it fit perfectly and is provides enough warmth for a crisp Fall day. So far I have been able to dress this Bart Simpson sweater up, (like in this outfit) and down with some comfy boyfriend jeans n sneakers.

Gabriel also loved the sweater since he is a HUGE fan of The Simpsons!

Drawing Memories

I’ve recently started drawing many of my memories down, I find that it’s another fun alternative to writing about them. On the back of each drawing I write a short blurb about the memory, where we were, what date it took place and the emotions I felt.

This picture is of a memory I had from when we went to Miami, Florida for the first time in April of this year.

Try making a doodle of one of your recent memories, you’ll love the release of good energy!

Welcoming Parenthood: Hearing Your Heartbeat

Hearing your heart beat for the first time was amazing. Your heart beating is the most beautiful sound I have heard to date, alongside the voice of Daddy singing of course, hehehe. They both move me to tears and make me realize that all of my dreams have come true.

Hearing that heart beat lets me know I have a little bundle of love growing inside of me. You have been blessing us everyday since we found out you were on your way. You’ve been the best gift and we look forward to loving and guiding you through this beautiful journey of life that you have already started.

I love you.

Halloween DIY: Hanging Ghosts

My mom, Ana is a crafty lady, I think that’s where I get my creativity from! As long as I can remember she has always had some sort of project going on, like center pieces for our Quince Años, a queen sized crochet blanket or decorations for some sort of holiday.

Since it is October, the month of Halloween, I figured I would show you one of her upcycled Halloween projects, these super cute and easy HANGING GHOSTS! You can hang these ghosts anywhere in or outside your home, she hangs them in the front of our house.

Each hanging ghost takes less than 10 minutes to make, like I said this is a super EASY DO IT YOURSELF project perfect for Halloween! You can find everything you need for the hanging ghosts in your home, and if you don’t have fish line you can using string or even do a quick stitch! And if you don’t have felt, you can cut up on old tshirt ;)

Thanks mom for letting me share your Halloween DIY!!! Love You!

What does PERFUME or FRAGRANCE actually mean? And what are the alternatives to it?

Ever look at the ingredient list of one of your beauty products and wonder what Perfume or Fragrance really means? This may surprise some, but Perfume or Fragrance is NOT just one ingredient, “it can easily hide 100 ingredients that don’t have to be listed on the label.” Crazy right??

Some of these unwanted chemicals, include several hormone disruptors, carcinogens and allergy- and asthma- triggering ingredients.

So what are some alternatives to Perfume or Fragrance? The first option you have is to go with Fragrance-Free products. Too make sure that the product is actually unscented, take a sniff because many creams and body care products have a light fragrance, even when it says Fragrance-Free.

The second alternative to Perfume or Fragrance is to go for products that derive their aroma from natural sources. You can also shop for products that have “Phthalate-Free” labelledI personally like using high-quality, certified organic essential oils.

After Hours Parade: Handmade Pop Culture Shrine/Nicho Magnet Giveaway

Frances is the creative brains and hands behind After Hours Parade, an Etsy shop that sell handmade Pop Culture Shrine/Nicho Magnets. After Hours Parade is what happens when love for art and Pop Culture merges with Frances’ love of Mexican folklore. Considering Frances first etsy shop (Il*Mostro) is dedicated to character robots, its no surprise that Pop Culture strikes again for her second shop.
This time around, her Cultural roots are a bit more in play. As an avid fan of everything Dia De Los Muertos stands for, Frances decided to take this new project in a similar direction — this time pairing skeletons with some of our favourite, beloved Pop icons encased in their own little vivid sparkly shrines. It’s simply Pop Culture… immortalized!

Frances is going to giveaway ONE Pop Culture shrine of YOUR CHOICE to ONE NOTM reader!! ^.^

ANNABELLE Paraben-Fragrance Free TwistUp Retractable Lipstick Crayon

I figured it’d be a good idea to do a review on a ANNABELLE‘s Paraben Free TwistUp Retractable Lipstick Crayon since I talked about Parabens aka “estrogen mimickers” a couple of days ago.

ANNABELLE‘s TwistUp Lipstick Crayon is a retractable lipstick and lipliner in one, which I found to be very convenient because I can quickly outline and fill in my lips. The TwistUp Retractable Lipstick Crayons are very pigmented, creamy, lightweight and glossy. I found that the colours I have (Kinky Pink, Absolute and Mai Tai) do not bleed. They are enriched with nourishing and natural ingredients such as www.annabelle.ca
