Our bodies are an amazing wonder, from how they grow, heal and reproduce. We can’t talk about this amazing process, without mentioning the life changing experience that is pregnancy and birth. Pregnancy and birth can take a toll on your body and leave you with some unexpected changes to your body. From carrying the baby weight on your pelvis, to the baby going through the birth canal, the pushing, the crowning and more pushing, may have an effect on some of the muscles, nerves, and tissues that make up your pelvic floor. And this may lead to bladder leaks (Stress Urinary Incontinence).
Stress Urinary Incontinence (SUI) is involuntary loss of urine from the bladder when exercising, laughing, sneezing or coughing. SUI can be akward or embarrassing to talk about, but I think women need to talk about it without feeling ashamed or embarrassed. I admit it, whenever I cough to hard or sneeze I pee a little. Although it doesn’t always happen, if I feel a sneeze coming, I usually cross my legs just incase.
SUI one of the most common types of urinary incontinence in pregnant women and postpartum, but it’s often easily managed. For example, doing kegels during your pregnancy and post partum can help tone the pelvic muscles. I try to do kegels everyday, but I have on and off days. I feel like my pelvic muscles are getting better, but I would also like to try something else, like The Align Method.
