Post Partum, Stress Urinary Incontinence and The Align Method

Our bodies are an amazing wonder, from how they grow, heal and reproduce. We can’t talk about this amazing process, without mentioning the life changing experience that is pregnancy and birth. Pregnancy and birth can take a toll on your body and leave you with some unexpected changes to your body. From carrying the baby weight on your pelvis, to the baby going through the birth canal, the pushing, the crowning and more pushing, may have an effect on some of the muscles, nerves, and tissues that make up your pelvic floor. And this may lead to bladder leaks (Stress Urinary Incontinence).

Stress Urinary Incontinence (SUI) is involuntary loss of urine from the bladder when exercising, laughing, sneezing or coughing. SUI can be akward or embarrassing to talk about, but I think women need to talk about it without feeling ashamed or embarrassed. I admit it, whenever I cough to hard or sneeze I pee a little. Although it doesn’t always happen, if I feel a sneeze coming, I usually cross my legs just incase.

SUI one of the most common types of urinary incontinence in pregnant women and postpartum, but it’s often easily managed. For example, doing kegels during your pregnancy and post partum can help tone the pelvic muscles. I try to do kegels everyday, but I have on and off days. I feel like my pelvic muscles are getting better, but I would also like to try something else, like The Align Method.

The Align Method courses and workshops use HYPOPRESSIVES™ Low Pressure Fitness as its foundation. Low Pressure Fitness is a specific rhythmic breathing pattern set to specific postural exercises that together trigger an automatic or anticipatory response of your deep core muscles. By optimizing your breathing pattern and posture you create the perfect setting that encourages your deep core muscles to work as a balanced team. It is a great choice as a preventative and restorative measure for anyone wanting to prevent or reduce concerns like diastasis recti, prolapse, incontinence, mummy tummy and hernias.

It just clicks right? All of our body is connected and should work together, but after time and life experiences like pregnancy and birth our mind forgets that and it all gets out of whack. We start breathing differently, have awful posture and are not in-sync or in-tune.

The Align Method Courses and Workshops are for you if you want to:

  • Reduce or prevent urinary incontinence
  • Improve your breathing pattern
  • Reduce or prevent POP (Pelvic Organ Prolapse)
  • Improve your core function
  • Reduce pelvic congestion and improve blood circulation
  • Improve your posture
  • Reduce Diastasis Recti (abdominal seperation)
  • Improve your athletic performance
  • Improve your sexual function
  • Reduce mummy tummy
  • Prevent hernias

I’m excited to be joining The Align Method Workshop this month. I really can’t wait to have my body in-sync and say adios to urinary incontinence. If you are in the Lower Mainland, you can also attend classes or workshops, click here to check out the schedules and register. Janet has been kind enough to offer a free 30 minute follow-up via FaceTime for NOTM readers who register using the code: NINA.

Great information and very timely for anyone who recently had a baby. It seems that being pregnant is a reason why our muscles weaken over time. Let’s fix this!!

I wish that I could go to one of these, as I am struggling with my mom tummy and I am pretty sure that I have the ab separation thing. It says that it will improve your breathing pattern. Would it help with people who have sleep apnea?
