5 Amazing Oils to Use During Pregnancy

There are many benefits of using oils not only during pregnancy, but post partum as well. Some of those benefits include: softens and protects skin, prevents/minimizes stretch marks, avoid itchiness, soothes, and moisturizes.

I recommend applying oil to your belly three times a day. Morning, afternoon and night. I generously apply the oil of choice when I wake up, after a shower and before bed. I have oils all over my house, and visible so I remember to apply. There are a couple in the washroom, some on our bedroom dresser, on the mantle above our bed, and even in my diaper bags.

Some of my favourite oils include those you can find in the kitchen, at a pharmacy, the mall and of course, a local organic skin and body shop. Below are five of my favourite oils that I used during pregnancy and post-partum.

5 Amazing Oils To Use During Pregnancy and Post Partum

naked coconuts. organic virgin coconut oil at its best. Not just for cooking, you have to try this brand specifically on your body. The texture is great, and just melts at your fingertips. The smell, delicious! Besides having one in my room, I have a little tub in the kitchen, so whenever I am cooking with this beautiful oil, I don’t mind licking my fingers or rubbing the excess into my skin. It leaves your skin feeling super soft and moisturized. naked coconuts is 100% organic, non-gmo and a local Vancouver company!

L’OCCITANE: Almond Supple Skin Oil. I use this oil specifically after showering since it absorbs quickly, smells nice and doesn’t leave me feeling greasy. It leaves skin, especially belly feeling soft and hydrated. Say bye, bye to that itchy belly!

ps- the bottle is glass, so you have to be cautious when applying oil and handling the bottle. My model was a pump, the newer ones have a spray nozzle.LOCCITANE ALMOND SUPPLE SKIN OIL

BURT’S BEES: MAMA BEE is a rich, all over body oil that keeps your body hydrated. Like other oils, it provides a comforting massage for you and baby. It has a nice subtle lemon scent to it and is not greasy. I like to apply generously and massage my belly, for smooth, naturally nourished skin. BURT'S BEES: MAMA BEE NOURISHING OIL pregnancy

Bio-Oil. I purchased this oil during my most recent pregnancy because I remember that in elementary school I took a gnarly fall and scraped the whole side of my face and was left with a scar. But after using this Bio-Oil for weeks on end, that scar healed and eventually disappeared.

This moisturizing oil is lightweight and non-greasy. I found that it left my belly feeling soft, and hydrated.Bio-Oil

SALTSPRING SOAPWORKS: Mummy’s Tummy Balm is my favourite of the bunch. The balm deliciously melts into your belly as you massage over belly in soft circular motions. Rich in texture, made of coconut oil and shea butter that moisturizes and protects skin. The soft soothing scents of patchouli and chamomile help calm and relax mama and baby.

I applied Mummy’s Tummy Balm every night before bed with both pregnancies because it’s scent is so calming. SALTSPRING SOAPWORKS is also a local BC company, bonus!SALTSPRING SOAPWORKS: Mummy's Tummy Balm

Using oils during pregnancy is self-care! Take a couple minutes to yourself during the day and apply the oil of your choice in soft circular motions. Relax and soothe yourself, while relieving your growing belly from the itchiness.
